Tips for finding an awesome hotel for your next trip:

So you have chosen your destination and dreamed up you must see list of attractions while there. But now you reached a less certain part of making your travel plans–booking a good hotel. Here are a few really helpful tips that we have learned from years of traveling.

  •  Location, Location, Location: Your time in a specific city or location is very limited, so you want to limit the amount of time you spend traveling from your hotel to the various attractions you want to see. Whether that is by the beach in Thailand or a spot in the center of Hong Kong you want to ideally book accommodations nearby.
  • Budget? How much are you willing to spend to get nice hotel or good location? This is something you will have to decide as you plan the trip. The general rule of thumb is that you can find deals in certain districts that are less likely to cater to tourists e.g. business districts. Of course if you check frequently you can often find great flash sales and last minute deals on more desirable accommodations.
  • Will you spend more time in or outside the hotel? At certain destinations you might find yourself staying in a all inclusive resort like in Bali or Malaysia, where you might find yourself having a tough time finding the motivation of leaving the confines of the resort area. So if you want to power through your trip and see as many attractions as you can then you might want to book a cheaper room at a hotel with fewer tempting amenities.
  • Planning day excursions? Are you planning to take day trips and longer excursions to outlying areas or districts? Then you definitely want to track down and stay relatively close to a nearby train station, bus terminal, or metro hub–and in many cases hotels near mass transit hubs can be quite affordable.
